THK LM linear bushing dimensions

Why do LM 8S and LM 8 need different checks?
Both run on an 8 mm shaft and have a 15 mm outside diameter, but the published body lengths are 17 mm and 24 mm. If the bearing is retained in a close-fitting housing, that 7 mm difference matters. Seal, open or clearance-adjustable variants also need their own code and drawing check.
Do not confuse a round-shaft linear ball bushing with a profiled-rail guideway block. Their mounting, load paths and replacement requirements are different.
What should I send to source a linear bearing?
- Full manufacturer part number, including seal or open-type suffix.
- Shaft diameter, housing bore, bearing body length and quantity.
- Photographs of the old bearing and its markings, or the machine drawing.
- Whether the shaft is worn, plus load, speed and contamination details when known.
